Women’s soccer wins 1-1 with # 25 Georgetown

Omaha, Neb .– The Creighton women’s football team drew 1-1 at # 25 Georgetown in the BIG EAST opener for both teams on Thursday 23 September.
After Thursday’s action, the Bluejays were 6-2-2 in the season while Georgetown advanced to 4-0-5.
The Bluejays took the lead in the third minute (2:10) as the second year Abigail Santana turned a flank shot past Georgetown goalkeeper Allie Augur from left to right. Santana received the ball from Junior Renée Pountney left in the penalty area. With the outside of her foot, she was able to lift the ball over a defender and into the net.
Creighton held the lead through the first half but gave up an own goal in the 59th minute. Georgetown’s Gia Vicari fired a shot from right to left that was heading for Bluejay keeper Keelan Terrell. Creighton Defender Gabby Grimaldi tried to divert the shot but failed to get it into the net.
The two teams fought for the next 50 minutes without either scoring a winning goal.
Georgetown had a 19-6 lead in the shots in the game but only a 3-2 lead in the overtime sessions.
Creighton returns to the field in a roadmatch in Providence on Sunday, September 26th. Kick-off is scheduled for 11 a.m. (CT).
