For the fourth straight game, the Dodge City women’s soccer team took on a KJCCC ranked opponent, this time with the No. 6 for Butler, and beat the Grizzles to the end but went 2-0.
The Conquistadors, having lost eight of the last nine meetings to Butler, would play the Top 10 Grizzlies hard and their closest loss to Butler in the last 10 meetings. The 2-0 loss moves the conqs to 1-4-1 and 0-4 in KJCCC action.
Conqs would challenge in the first half but Butler would come on the board first in the 19th minute. As the first half progressed, the Conqs had a few opportunities to potentially level the contest, including a free-kick for Sian Cha just at the top of the box after a yellow card for the Butler keeper. Cha sent the free-kick to goal and hit the bar, and later in the first half the Conqs had a few other looks but couldn’t make it 1-0 down at half-time.
In the second half, the Conqs saw Butler controlling most of the half, extending their lead to 2-0 in the 53rd minute. The Conqs continually pushed forward all the way to the wire but were unable to push through from a 2-0 deficit.
Shooting opportunities were almost even when Butler passed the Conqs 1310, but it was 8-3 in shots on goal in the game. Joelle Brand was solid in goal and made six saves, both Cha and Alexandra Sibrikova made three shots.
Conqs will host Garden City on Wednesday September 21 to continue the season with an 8pm start time.
