Texas Longhorns soccer face SMU in the first round of the NCAA tournament

Texas and SMU haven’t played against each other in football since 2005. UT won that game 1-0 in Austin.
Austin, Texas – Texas will take over SMU Mustangs in the first round of the 2021 NCAA tournament, the team learned on Monday.
The announcement comes after the Longhorns in 20th place lost to the 9th-placed TCU Horned Frogs in the finals of the Big 12 Championship tournament. The SMU also lost their last game. The Mustangs fell 2-0 to the USF Bulls in the American Athletic Conference Championship tournament.
Texas has an 11-4-6 record prior to the first NCAA tournament match, and SMU has a similar record but with fewer draws (11-4-2).

The Texas Longhorns and SMU Mustangs football programs also have some connections. KVUEs Emily Giangreco reported coached SMU soccer head coach Chris Petrucelli from 1999 to 2011 in Texas. This is the first time his team has played with him as head coach against UT.
