Sasitharan hired as assistant soccer coach



KENT, Ohio – The Kent state women’s soccer team has the recruitment of Rocky Sasitharan as an assistant trainer. Sasitharan, who has been a volunteer assistant coach at Golden Flashes Football since 2018, will be promoted to this position as head coach Rob MarinaroAssociate after graduating from the University of Akron School of Law in 2021, Juris Doctor-Cum Laude.

While Sasitharan’s time as a volunteer coach was on the Kent State soccer team, the Flashes went 2-1-1 against Power Five schools. The Flashes averaged 1.85 goals per game in the 2018 season, finishing second in the Mid-American Conference. Sasitharan had a variety of roles including processing scouting reports, coordinating team training, conducting retrograde and video analysis, and evaluating potential athletes.

Prior to his volunteer work in Kent, Sasitharan was the girls’ coaching director at Durham FC Academy, where he was the youngest coach in Canada at the time with a National B coaching license. Sasitharan also served on the club’s coaching staff for the Ajax Soccer Club in Ontario for two years.

Sasitharan’s football experience as a player includes stints at Sigma FC Academy (2005-10), Erin Mill Soccer Club (2000-10) and York University (2010-11).

Sasitharan graduated from York University with a degree in Psychology with honors in 2016. He then worked in several positions in a non-coaching role, including at the University of Akron, where he was an external member of both the Athletics Compliance and Title IX teams.

“We thank President Diacon, Sporting Director Randale Richmond, Senior Deputy Athletic Director Greg Glaus and all the administrative staff for working so quickly to fill this position, ”said Marinaro. “Rocky is a wonderful addition to our program. We are very happy that he is working on the recruiting trail, but also working with our current student-athletes. He has a wonderful demeanor, is a great coach on the field and we are very happy that he is helping us steer this program in a more positive direction. “
