Celebrations on Saturday include the pre-game block party at Hall of Fame Avenue, several events in honor of Barry Sanders, and the first-ever Boone Pickens Stadium “blackout,” encouraging all fans to wear black clothes instead of the traditional “Sea” of. ” to wear orange. “The theme of Saturday’s game is Military Recognition in association with Folds of Honor. Honoring a Legend – Barry Sanders joins the OSU Ring of Honor and receives the statue’s unveiling
In 1988, Barry Sanders, who was awarded the Heisman Trophy, was honored during the festivities on Saturday. A Sanders statue will be unveiled in front of the northwest corner of Boone Pickens Stadium at 5 p.m. The unveiling ceremony is free and open to the public. The statue is approximately 2.70 meters high and was made from bronze by Enid-based artist Harold Holden. Sanders is the fourth person to stand with a statue on the Oklahoma state campus, alongside former President Henry Bennett, OSU’s first African American student, Nancy Randolph Davis, and benefactor Boone Pickens. Also, Sanders will be added to the stadium’s Cowboy Football Ring of Honor at halftime. With this, Sanders joins his OSU teammate and Hall of Famer colleague Thurman Thomas as the first two names in the ring of honor.
In the ranking
Oklahoma State debuted at number 11 on the first College Football Playoffs rankings of 2021 last week, and this week’s CFP rankings will be released on Tuesday evening. This week, OSU was included in 12 consecutive CFP polls as of November 5, 2019. The Cowboys have been in the CFP rankings for six of the last seven seasons. OSU ranks 10th in the AP Top 25 this week, continuing a series of 14 consecutive seasons in the poll. The streak, which began in 2008, is the tenth longest active streak in the country. Including this season, OSU was in the top 15 of the AP poll for 12 of the last 14 seasons. It got a top 10 ranking in the AP poll at some point in 10 of those 14 years. The Cowboys are # 10 in this week’s USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coach Survey. TCU is not rated in any of the major surveys.
The series
Saturday’s game marks the 32nd meeting between the state of Oklahoma and the TCU, with the series dating back to 1915. The 2021 season marks the 10th consecutive year the teams have met, starting with the TCU joining the Big 12 for the 2012 season. OSU has an all-time series advantage of 16-13-2, including a 10th -4 head start at Stillwater. OSU has won six of the last 10 in the series and five of the last six at home. Mike Gundy is 5-4 against TCU and Jerry Kill is 0-0 as head coach against the Cowboys.
