No. 16 Notre Dame leads USC at halftime on Saturday by a compelling 17-3 advantage as the two iconic college football brands renew their rivalry for the 92nd time in the series’ history.

The Fighting Irish don’t play many games under lights at prime time in South Bend, so the stage is always special. So far, the home team has delivered under these lights. Jack Coan completed 74% of his passes and threw a touchdown while the Notre Dame defense did a great job rushing the passerby and forcing hasty or hard throws from USC quarterback Kedon Slovis.

That’s not to say that USC Star Wide Receiver Drake London was ineffective; He made nine catches on 12 targets for 109 yards in the first half. But the fact that USC was still kept out of the end zone is the most important statistic for the defense of Notre Dame, who have already taken a huge blow in this game with the loss of star safety Kyle Hamilton.

Hamilton went down with an apparent injury to his right knee in the second quarter when he made a game near the sideline and landed awkwardly on his leg. The CBS Sports Midseason All-American needed help out of the field and into the injury tent, then was later seen hobbling with his knee wrapped around. The school has officially ruled his return from the injury as questionable, but given his status as a projected top five pick in the latest CBS Sports NFL Mock Draft and current score in half, we’re unlikely to see his return on this one become game.

CBS Sports will be with you all the way with scoring updates, analysis and highlights from the second half of Notre Dame vs. USC on Saturday night.
