Mayor’s Cup enters a new era on Saturday

EVANSVILLE – For the first time in its rich history, the Mayor’s Cup featuring the University of Evansville and Southern Indiana men’s soccer team will be played during the regular season on Saturday, September 10 at 6:00 p.m. at Arad McCutchan Stadium in Evansville.

The annual meeting between the Aces and the Screaming Eagles moves into the 2022 regular season with USI’s move to the NCAA Division I. Saturday’s matchup is the first-ever regular season meeting between the two teams. Evansville comes in with a 2-0-1 record from back-to-back wins over IUPUI and Incarnate Word as the Eagles look for their first win of the season after starting the year 0-4.

Saturday’s game is presented by ProRehab and Tri-State Orthopedics as Aces and Eagles partners with the YMCA to support youth athletic programs. Fans attending the game are encouraged to donate $2 to the YMCA upon entering Arad McCutchan Stadium. Fans are also treated to a concession stand offering hot dogs for just $1.

The Aces’ attack has been in full swing lately, scoring three goals in the first half against both IUPUI and Incarnate Word. Evansville has scored multiple goals in each of their three games this season, their first three-game streak of two or more goals since the 2016 season. Evansville’s three-game attack in 2022 was all players from Spain. All eight of the Aces’ goals this season have been scored by the Spanish trio of Carlos Barcia, Jose Vivas and Nacho Diaz.
