Graham-Kapowsin QB Josh Wood Leads FSP on Heir Football: “It Will Explode (When Recruited) After That” – High School Sports News, Results, Videos, Rankings
PUYALLUP, wash. – Josh Wood called the situation “complicated”.
No doubt it was.
Next fall, Wood will seek to lead Graham-Kapowsin High School to a federal grade 4A football crown – this would be the first in school history. And with all of their returning talents, the Eagles will be one of the favorites.
But on Sunday night, Wood was the quarterback for Ford Sports Performance, his year-round training team. On the other side of Heir Football were a handful of his high school teammates, particularly running back Jalen Davenport, wide receiver Julian “Juice” Mason, offensive tackle Vega Ioane and two defensive line terrorists Curtis and Hunter Hill.
“I wanted my guys to do their thing but I didn’t want them to do it because we were on opposing teams,” said Wood.
Wood was one of the standout players of the game, leading FSP to a 35-14 win at Chief Leschi Stadium.
The junior led FSP on a touchdown drive towards the end of the first half to close a deficit – 14-13. And in the second half, he let go of a delayed quarterback run and scored an 18-yard touchdown to give FSP a 25:14 lead.
“In my opinion he was definitely the difference maker on your team,” said Curtis Hill. “It sucks to lose, but it’s amazing he does. Then it will explode (when recruiting). “
That’s not to say the Hill brothers treated Wood like any other quarterback.
Hunter Hill took Wood downstairs for a sack – and then hit him head-on as he started a quarterback scramble.
“Any other quarterback I would have knocked him down,” said Hunter Hill. “But I knew it was him. I wrapped him up and pushed him back because I didn’t want to hurt him. We’re starting a season soon. “
Mason made his mark on Heir by taking a short 20-yard pass for a touchdown in the first half that broke a 7-7 tie.
He also had a lot to say to his school quarterback.
“That was a friendly competition. I was talking rubbish out there, ”Mason said. “But I hugged him after the game.
“I mean, we’ve had good chemistry since third grade. It’s unbreakable. Josh is my type. “
