durham — Duke held his first scrimmage of preseason fall camp Sunday night at Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium.

The Blue Devils played over 100 games in addition to working on special teams and two-minute drills. Senior offensive lineman after her 11th practice of the year Jacob Monk and junior defender Jaylen Stinson addressed the media.

“It was the first scrimmage of the year and it felt great to be out there,” said Monk. “In some situations it felt like a game and I think our pace was really good. Overall it was even with both sides showing lightning.”

Monk leads a veteran group down the offensive line, bringing back four starters from a year ago and adding three grad transfers.

“We get along really well,” Monk said when asked about his position group. “We make progress every day. We’ve got a big guy with us Chance Lytlewho is really physical. Dre (Andre) Harris from the state of Arkansas is extremely light on his feet and athletic Jack Burns is also physical. Putting them together with the guys we already had here and further developing our mentality to be the most physical unit on the field.

Stinson has received praise for the pre-season from numerous outlets, including Pro Soccer Network who named him a preseason All-American.

“Right now we’re taking the right steps,” Stinson said when asked about the team’s growth midway through preseason camp. “We’re not where we want to be yet, but we’re on the right track. You can tell everyone’s bought in and we’re moving in the right direction for the season opener.”

Duke is continuing his fall camp schedule in preparation for his season opener on Friday, September 2 against Temple. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Brooks Field in Wallace Wade Stadium and will be broadcast on ACC Network.
