Cowgirl Soccer Routs Abilene Christian

STILL WATER — Three different cowgirls scored twice as Oklahoma State drove to an 8-2 win over Abilene Christian in a spring exhibition game at Neal Patterson Stadium on Saturday.

Samia Phiri, Hayley Ledford and Olivia Dowell each recorded a brace for the Cowgirls, who improved to 4-0 in the spring season.

The Cowgirls had numerous chances within the first 20 minutes of the game Logan Heusler was the first goalscorer for OSU after she coolly slid her shot past the ACU goaltender to give OSU a 1-0 lead. It wasn’t long before OSU extended their lead to two when Phiri scored seconds later after firing a shot into the back net.

The Cowgirls would add two more thanks to goals from Dowell and Ledford before the break. OSU went into halftime 4-0.

Shortly after the start of the second half, Abilene Christian pulled one back to make it 4-1. However, the Cowgirls stormed back and added two goals within the first 20 minutes of halftime. Grace Yochum came on the Cowgirls’ scorer list after a great pass from Dowell to make it 5-1, and Dowell then scored her second goal of the game a few minutes later.

OSU wasn’t done when the Cowgirls netted two more, with Ledford and Phiri each adding goals to give the Cowgirls an 8-1 lead.

ACU was able to get their second result of the game with one second remaining, and the game ended 8-2.

The Cowgirls will wrap up the spring show season against North Texas on Sunday, April 10 at Neal Patterson Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 2 p.m
