American football legend Megan Rapinoe condemns the “cruel and evil” silence about Brittney Griner

The US esports world seems unanimous in their support for Brittney Griner. Athletes from the WNBA, NBA, football, MLB and other sports have come together and asked the US government to facilitate the release of the WNBA star. But there’s one person who’s been silent all along, and US soccer legend Megan Rapinoe called her out.

Griner played her college basketball at Baylor, and she was one of the all-time greatest players at her institution. In fact, she had one of the best collegiate careers of all time and was drafted number one overall in the 2013 WNBA draft as a result. Incidentally, the coach of her team at Baylor was Kim Mulkey.

And she’s now being criticized for not speaking out for Brittney Griner.

Many players have come out and slammed Mulkey for not supporting their former player. A few days ago she was asked again what she thought of the situation. And she declined to comment again.

That was the last straw for US soccer legend Megan Rapinoe. She slapped the coach for not speaking out for Griner. Rapinoe commented on an Instagram post expressing her disgust at the situation. she commented “That’s honestly just cruel and nasty and even more honest… HIS SHOWS SIS. This hatred seeps through. #weareBG”

This isn’t the first time Mulkey has been involved in a controversy with Griner. Back when she was Baylor’s coach and Griner was just recruiting, she reportedly asked BG not to be open about her sexuality. Griner didn’t think that was okay, but she stuck to it. The institution reportedly felt the Phoenix Mercury star’s identity could affect their recruitment.

But it’s rare that a former coach doesn’t support a player. Especially since she has garnered the support of an entire country and countless other stars. And these stars aren’t happy that Mulkey isn’t using her voice to advocate for Griner.
