Alyssa Treanor Named Union Women’s Lacrosse Head Coach

SCHENCTADY, ​​NY – He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge of the Capital District both as a player and as a coach. Alyssa Treanor was named the new head coach of the Union College women’s lacrosse team, Director of Athletics Jim McLaughlin ’93 announced on Tuesday.

Treanor is no stranger to Schenectady, having previously worked as an assistant coach for the Union women’s lacrosse program for five years. She spent three years with the Netherlands from 2016 to 2018 before returning to the sidelines for the 2020 and 2021 seasons, mainly working with the team’s attackers and draw specialists.

“I’m so excited to be the senior women’s lacrosse coach at Union College,” said Treanor. “I have to thank Jim McLaughlin and the entire search committee for this opportunity. Union College is a place for the student-athletes to excel in the classroom, in the community and on the field, and it feels great to be back with the Union family. I look forward to competing and taking the program to new heights.”

Treanor most recently served as the head coach of the women’s lacrosse program at Russell Sage College, guiding the team through the challenging Empire 8 Conference in 2022. She led the team to a 5-8 record with three Gators in her first year at the helm receive Empire 8 Player of the Week honors weekly and one pair will receive All-Empire 8 honors at the end of the season.

Treanor is active in the local lacrosse club scene and previously coached for ADK Lacrosse and the Albany Elite Lacrosse Club. Her team won the Harvard Invitational Tournament in the summer of 2015.

As a student, Treanor was a four-year starter at Siena College and led the Saints to three MAAC playoff appearances. She was named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team in 2012 and earned her second All-MAAC Team honors title in her senior season when she finished second on the team with 31 goals and nine assists. Treanor finished her career ranked ninth all-time in career points and fifth in career assists at Siena, having scored 77 goals with 33 assists over four seasons. In 2005 she graduated from Siena with a bachelor’s degree in history.

Treanor’s roots in the Capital District stretch back even further to her days as a three-sport varsity athlete at Niskayuna High School, where she danced in soccer, basketball and lacrosse. She made the Section 2 Lacrosse All Star Team and her teams won three Sectional Lacrosse titles. Her father, Mark, coached boys’ basketball at Niskayuna for over 20 years and recently completed his fifth season as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Union. Her sister, Kayla, was a member of the US national team and is the senior women’s lacrosse coach at Syracuse University.

Treanor will take up her role in July as the team spends the fall term preparing for the 2023 season. The schedule for 2023 will be published later this year.
